Lesson: How to write a book review

Grade Level: First

Purpose: Students will be able to write a book review.

Materials Used:

1. Big Al written by Andrew Clementz and illustrated by Yoshi
2. The Perfect Pet written by Margerie Palatini and illustrated by Bruce Watley
3. Book Review Worksheet

Reflection: The students learn how to write a book review with the name of the author and illustrator, scoring a book from one to five, a basic summary, what the reader enjoyed about the book, and the reader’s recommendation to other readers for a particular book. I compared writing a book review to leaving a review for their favorite food at a restaurant and they all loved it!
