Typography Project

Assignment: Take twenty photos using different camera techniques and styles.

Reflection: This project was a good way to think about fonts and type in new and interesting ways. It was more challenging than I expected because the project was based in Microsoft Word and I’ve never used Word for graphical stylizing. I normally use Photoshop for all my image editing needs, but I learned features in Word that I did not even know were there.

Scavenger Hunt

Assignment: Use the clues provided to explore the TCNJ campus to solve the riddles. Using the photograph composition techniques learned during the Camera Operation assignment, take photos near each location using one of these techniques.

Reflection: After completing this project I was surprised how intensely focused my partner and I had become when solving the riddles. We thought it would be a brief assignment but after a few hours of exploration we still had about a quarter of the riddles to solve. After we stopped focusing on the time constraint  is when we truly began to enjoy it; finding the answers to the clues and taking interesting photos. My favorite part was getting to know one of my classmates better and finding new parts of the campus I never knew existed.

Color Theory Poster

Assignment: Create a poster for a classroom based around color and it’s varied emotional, psychological, and cultural meanings.

Reflection: I chose to create my poster with respect to a sixth through twelfth grade classroom as that is the grade range I will be teaching. This project took hours to complete on Photoshop, but I believe the end product was worth the effort! I will proudly display this in my classroom.

Temporary Tattoo:

Assignment: Using colors, symbols and shapes design a temporary tattoo in Photoshop that represents your family like a hex sign does. This assignment will give you the opportunity to show your skills in layout, design and color theory.

Reflection: This project was one of my favorite from my Multimedia Design class at TCNJ. The project needed the student to practice their drawing abilities, decision making process, and revising until a final digital product was made. My wife loved my design so much she’s asked me to make a full size rendition to put outside our home.

Prezi Presentation:

Assignment: Design, develop and present a multimedia presentation that interprets your ideal classroom of the future with an unlimited budget and imagination.

Reflection: This project easily took over twenty hours to complete. I could have accomplished it faster but the more I learned about Prezi the more of it’s features I wanted to use. I designed this presentation so that it could be used in a science lesson learning about the solar system. I wanted the students to have a feel for the vastness of space and what it actually looks like. To do this I found images of the planets and moons next to each other in proper scaled, which I used to make my Prezi of the solar system. I will continue to refine this Prezi so that I when I begin teaching I will be able to teach a great lesson about the solar system.

Band Literisms:

Assignment: Using Photoshop, create a digital image with a literal depiction of a band’s name.

Reflection: As soon as the professor described the project I knew the band I would use to make my “bandism” project. I already knew all the steps I would do in Photoshop to create the project I envisioned. I can see how younger students would completing this project and I will be using this idea to create my own lesson.

Holiday for Heroes:

Assignment: Use your skills learned in ETE261 to create a “Pop-Up” card that will be going to a soldier during the holiday season. Part of the card must be digitally created, then using card stock assemble a demo version of your mechanism, then a create a final version of your card.

Reflection: This is one of the most honorable projects I think I have ever done in school. I cannot imagine a move difficult time to be a soldier than during the holidays; away from your friends and family. This is a way to brighten their day and know that someone took the time to make this for them and wish them well. I was very proud of my creation and hope that its recipient enjoys it as much as I did. This is a project that I will adopt and do in my classroom, it is a test for creativity that also has the students empathize with our countries soldiers.

Camera Operation Project

Assignment: Take twenty photos using different camera techniques and styles.

Reflection: Taking photos has always been a favorite hobby of mine. Even as a child I remember the suspense of waiting to get my film developed to see how my photos came out. As I got older and my skills improved my photos become better and better. I practiced using techniques I found in magazines and websites, playing with the settings on the camera until I found how the original artist had captured their image. I never knew there were names for these techniques until this project. I truly loved this project and recommend anyone with a digital camera to take the time and do it for themselves and learn how to take better photographs; you wil have a lifetime of memorable moments
