Third TCNJ Field Experience in Edgewood Elementary School!

Purpose: Design and teach a complete science unit about plants.

I have just completed my third field experience at TCNJ in Edgewood Elementary School in Yardley, PA. I have been there teaching two days per week since February until two weeks ago when my full-time teaching began.  I worked with a partner to design the curriculum, a Mother’s Day Tea event which was part of the home/school connection for the semester, and a STEM Game Day; the culminating event for our plants unit. I was very fortunate to be placed in such an excellent school with such devoted teachers and parents. We explored the life cycle of plants, the anatomy of plants and seeds, how humans have used plants throughout history, and why sustaining natural resources, like plants, is so important.

Multimedia Design – Temporary Tattoo Project

I just finished my “Temporary Tattoo Project”. The class had to research and design their own hex signs, which are popular in the Pennsylvanian Dutch community. The process included creating four rough designs, picking two of them and then drawing more detailed versions of each. After reviewing the two drawing each student picked their favorite and drew a final draft which they then digitized in Adobe Photoshop.

Here is my final hex sign creation.
